I haven’t blogged hardly at all about the Cubs this season. It’s not that I don’t love them. It’s just that I’m tired, that’s all.
I knew it was going to be another long season, another losing season. But it’s not just the losing that exhausts me; it’s all the business around the losing, too.
It’s the blather about the losses and the players and the rebuild and the ticket prices and the drought and the this and the that. You know what’s it’s like being surrounded by a bunch of negative Nancys all the time? It sucks what little enjoyment I’m able to get out of a losing season right out of the air. SLUURRRP.
But, I cannot deny that there were good moments. I enjoyed every win, no matter how few. I relished the fact that the team wouldn’t be acquiring 100 losses two years in a row. Our revolving door of a roster introduced us to some new and fun faces: Dioner Navarro, Ryan Sweeney, Nate Schierholtz, “MVP” Donnie Murphy, Pedro Strop. And of course, we got to see some of the babies play and then dress up for rookie hazing day (always my favorite).
And let us not forget the time Keith Moreland wore the derby hat on Derby Day.
I also felt that Len and JD had a good season together, once JD came out of his shell a bit and got comfortable.
So despite the losing, there were some good times.
I didn’t go to a game this season. It’s not that I didn’t want to go. I had tickets for one game, but a weather postponement and then being scheduled to work on the new date made sure those tickets didn’t get used, at least by me. Work also kept me from catching a game during this last homestand, which I’m kind of bummed about.
But then again, I am pretty tired, so I don’t feel too bad about not getting up there.
I’ll make up for it by really resting up and getting to a game early next season.
